1100 engine diff header

There are a couple differences between the Gs1100e and Gs1100s engines. First off the Katana rods are much better than the 1100e piston rods. Also different about the Katana Crank is the generator rotor. Suzuki put the Gs750 rotor onto the Gs1000s and Gs1100s motors. This carried through to 1983 and the Gs1100sd as well. The point is, stator covers are not interchangeable between the Gs1100e and the Gs1100s engines. In a pinch you can get your big Kat running with a 750 stator cover but it too is a little different, but fits. The last common difference is the valve cover gasket. Katana has 24 bolt holes and 1980, 1981 1100 engines only have 20 as does '82 and '83 1100e engines.
This is a good place to touch on this too, the 1150 engine though very similar to the 1100, also has incompatibility issues in many areas. To name a few for you guys buying on eBay, the clutch hub gears won't work on your 1100 or the sprocket cover. The 1150ef rods have 20mm wrist pins not 18mm like your Katana, and the stator is different again. Something I thought would be the same is the idler gear for the starter motor, nope!  won't fit your 1100 either. Point is, make sure you know what you are buying before you waste your hard earned cash.

Many of us like to add an oil cooler to the big Kats to try and keep them comfortable. What many off you probably don't know and I didn't either for some time is that unless you change the oil filter cover the cooler is little more than cosmetic.
The reason for this is that the 1150 oil filter cover has a restrictor in it to force oil up the oil gallery to the cooler. Without this cover little oil gets up to the cooler.
WARNING - if you ever remove the cooler also replace the filter cover with the stock Katana cover or you will turn the engine into a boat anchor.

When going to a 5.5" wheel you have to install a 5/8" offset sprocket for chain clearance along with a 530 or 520 chain kit.

With a Bandit swing arm you can use a 1/2" offset counter shaft sprocket and 530 fits much better with it.
