There are a lot of opinions out there on what needs to be done to the Katana frame to keep it from bucking you off in a corner once you have loaded her up with new radials, better suspension, a decent swingarm and gobbs of power...
The first question you have ask yourself is, "do you feel lucky, well do ya punk?". Sorry, couldn't resist quoting Dirty Harry. Are you riding for championship points? Don't think so, are you riding your Big Katana to any where close to her potential?...ahhh, probably not. And if you are on the street, your frame is the least of the dangers you face.
Here is a beautiful diagram I found on OLDSKOOL SUZUKI. A great site you should visit often. Chalk full of useful information about all kinds of Suzukis and hundreds of guys to answer just about any question you may have. The web address on the picture is WWW.ROBBYNITROZ.NL but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks Robby where ever you are.

So you can take it to this extream or do what I do generally and that is "D" and "E" bracing.

If you decide to make the jump to more modern running gear there are a couple other issues to keep in mind with the Katana chassis. This applies to those who are converting their Gs1100e motorcycles as well as many other bikes.

The Bike will sit lower to the ground so you will need to shorten the kick stand or the bike will be standing a little straighter than you may like and easy to tip over.

Some guys will grind off the pivot bosses to fit a GSXR swing arm but I like to push the pivot bearings in two to three millimeters and machine the swing arm pivot. You will also need to machine the same amount off the inner bushings to match or take it all off one.

Most swing arm upgrades require the removal of the peg stays and the installation of rear sets. You must also be careful that the rear mounts for the signal lights (including bolts) won't rip into your nice new 180/55-17 when the suspension is in full compression.

See the info on the
SUSPENSION page for more information regarding swing arm upgrades that can effect the frame.
